Why does it say: I went to a whore HE says my life's a bore
That’s the actual lyric! Billy Joe Armstrong has stated he identifies as bisexual and this line is a nod to that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The psychiatrist recommends Billie Joe improve his sex life, so he turns to a prostitute, but while one would normally assume the prostitute to be a female person, they are referred to as “he” instead. This apparent inconsistency in the pronoun was demystified by Billie Joe when he admitted to being bisexual in a January 1995 interview with The Advocate: I think I’ve always been bisexual. I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. I think everybody kind of fantasizes about the same sex. I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of, “Oh, I can’t”. They say it’s taboo. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all. It’s a very beautiful thing. In confirmation of his dual sexuality, it’s worth noting how an early demo of “Basket Case” had instead “she said my life’s a bore”. It’s also curious how Billie Joe chose the psychiatrist to be a female, defying the misconceptions of the times, when most doctors were thought to be males. https://genius.com/Green-day-basket-case-lyrics 영어 실력이 딸려서 해석은 안 되네요
